Introduction

In recent years, computers, game consoles and the Internet has caused widespread and every home in the world with the introduction and spread of computer games in Turkey. In recent years, the number of people playing digital games in the world has exceeded 2 billion. Today, the annual volume exceeds 100 billion dollars for the sector expects 2020 is 128.5 billion dollars.

Global evolving game design sector in Turkey has evolved in parallel. Data for 2016 show that the market volume is $ 755 million and is growing rapidly. Turkey foreseen for 2020, the target market is around $ 2 billion.

Today’s young population is increasingly connected to the digital world. While children’s sense of entertainment was active playing with friends on the street, today it has become a relationship through digital games in the virtual world. The ratio of those who prefer to play alone on mobile platforms regardless of age and sex is also high. Especially because of the young population in Turkey than the European average digital gaming culture it is spreading quickly. It is estimated that approximately 30 million players in our country play a total of 39 million hours of play per day. The number of digital games played in Turkey over the next five years is expected to rise to 50-60 million.

Market growth and potential have led to government incentives for the gaming industry. The 2015-2018 Information Society Strategy and Action Plan, prepared with the support and cooperation of the Ministry of Development, includes determining the necessary steps to support the gaming industry, in particular game development activities, and setting up a strategy and action plan. The plan also covers incentives for the gaming industry, attracting foreign investors to the country, creating the human resources needed by the sector, and drafting legislation that will also include universities.

The importance of the plan is not limited to the fact that it draws attention to activities and incentives aimed at developing the game sector. It is also important for the sector to emphasize the human resources it needs in the growth process.

Despite the fact that it has such an important potential and the applications that are developing day by day, the biggest problem of the sector is the education about game software and artistic information hardware that manages the content of the games, meaning shaping (eg text structuring, script writing, artistic and cultural hardware etc.) and lack of infrastructure.

Turkey has become one of the important actors in the global market and to increase its share of production from the world but to do in this area and it will be possible to export produce. Young people who are aware of the necessities of the digital age and economy, who have the infrastructure to develop innovative works and who can produce digital games and content will be the locomotive of this growth. On the way to the export of games, the universities that provide education in the field of digital game design and the increase in the number of these universities will play a decisive role.
