Introduction

The basic purpose of education of the mentally disabled program is to contribute the science and the education on a national and global scale; to produce information for the welfare and happiness of the humanity; to train and bring up modern and research – fond teachers who shall be able to educate the mentally disabled at pre-school and elementary school levels; to inject research and practice skills in special education areas; to contribute to the activities to ensure that teachers working in special areas and the support service personnel are trained via on-the-job training programs; to contribute to the training of the experts focusing on the mentally disabled and to cooperate with such governmental/ private entities and institutions with studies on the mentally disabled.

Graduates from this program have the chance and opportunity to work at schools and centers run by Turkish Ministry of National Education and at the service of the mentally disabled as well as the private educational institutions and entities operating under the Ministry or Turkish Social Service and Children Protection Institution. The need for teachers in this area is really huge.
